Well I headed down to St George Island, FL for the Memorial Day weekend holiday. This trip I got to go up into the finished lighthouse. Sometime in 2005 the lighthouse, which used to be located on Little St George Island, collapsed. Not long after an effort began to salvage the remains, with a plan to rebuild the lighthouse on the main island so all could enjoy. Little St George is only accessible by boat, so a very small percentage of people that had visited the main island had ever seen it in person. Well since Dennis,a close friend of me and my father, was one of the organizers of the group, and dad not having much free time to help salvage the remains from Little St George, or to help chip off mortar from the recovered bricks, he purchase a tool that they needed.
So after having gotten regular updates about the lighthouse progress, from the salvage to the work chipping the brick, etc I was finally able to check out the completed lighthouse. I also happened to see Dennis while I was there and got a peek inside the Keeper's House. The outside was compete but inside was pretty much just framed, but they did have the AC hooked up and working, it was nice and cool inside.

Anyway here are a few photos
The SGI Lighthouse
The view north from the lighthouse. You can see the bridge across Apalachicola Bay in the distance.
The view west from the lighthouse.
The view east from the lighthouse.
I didn't take a shot from the view to the south, mainly because all you could see was some beach and the ocean, not to interesting.
Sunset one evening
Another day another beautiful sunset
